A licensed professional counselor and certified employee assistance professional (CEAP), Susan Young served as Samaritan’s Clinical Director for eight years before retiring in August 2024. She had expanded our clinical team and driven counseling session numbers up by 30% while honing processes, strengthening quality control, and empowering our therapists to further develop their clinical skills. Susan also carried her own caseload.
Fortunately for Samaritan, Susan still works as a therapist for us on a part-time basis, counseling adults in Samaritan's Butler office and via teletherapy. Her clinical expertise is exceptional, having worked with men, women, and families struggling with a broad range of disorders in addition to severe mental illnesses.

Before joining Samaritan, Susan served as a senior account manager for LifeSolutions where she managed the employee assistance program for 51 organizations in the Erie, PA region. She served as the director of the Northwest Beacon Group, a subsidiary of Safe Harbor Behavioral Health. Prior to her promotion to director, she was an employee assistance program counselor. Susan also provided individual and group therapy at Safe Harbor. She facilitated a utilization review process for therapy services collaboratively with psychiatrists and nursing staff, and helped develop counseling services for HIV positive individuals.

Susan earned her Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology from Gannon University in Erie, PA and a Bachelor’s Degree in Experimental Psychology from the University of California, Santa Barbara, CA. She is a member of the Employee Assistance Professional Association.

Susan and her husband Joel reside in Butler County.
