HELP for YOUNG WOMEN in CRISIS

If you’re a woman age 18-35, would you be surprised to learn you are among “the most stressed-out population” in the U.S.?

Behind the Smile

Young woman in today’s society share many positive characteristics. The are likely to be strong, independent, hard-working and high-achieving. So what’s going on?

Sources of high-level stress include:

Financial Hardship

  • Women’s wages are still 79% of men’s

Eating Disorders, Negative Self/Body Image

  • Death rate from anorexia is 12x higher than the rate for all other causes for females ages 15-24

Trauma: Violence and Sexual Abuse

  • 1 in 4 girls under 18 is sexually abused
  • 1 in 9 women has PTSD, which is twice as likely to occur in women than men
  • The most common causes of trauma in young women are assault and childhood sexual abuse

Chronic/High Stress

  • Leads to depression,anxiety and other health issues

So, if you’re thinking, “What can I do to help myself or to help other women?”…here are two very important things you need to know:


1) Call the Samaritan Counseling Center at 412-741-7430 to GET HELP.

We provide faith-based counseling by licensed professionals who are compassionate and experienced at helping women overcome women’s issues. Don’t have insurance or can’t afford high deductibles? Samaritan has a financial aid fund—the Silent Samaritans Fund—to make counseling affordable for women who qualify.

2) Please make a donation to GIVE HELP.

$125 will help a woman and her therapist to identify areas of need and set treatment goals. A $42 gift will subsidize one counseling session. Any amount you can afford will help!
