Online Therapy

What Is Online Therapy?

Online therapy is the delivery of professional counseling services via the Internet. At Samaritan, we provide this service through video conferencing.

Online therapy has been around since the 1990s and studies have shown it is just as—or in some cases more—effective than face-to-face therapy, depending on individual circumstances.

By participating in Samaritan’s online therapy, you have access to our state licensed therapists and faith-based care just as you would through traditional counseling—plus, insurance coverage and sliding scale fees apply.*

Is Samaritan's Online Therapy Right for You?

Online therapy may be a viable option for you if:
  • Traveling to and from counseling sessions poses an inconvenience (for example, you live in a remote/rural area, frequently travel for business or struggle with agoraphobia or other emotional and physical conditions that limit mobility)
  • You would feel more comfortable having counseling in the privacy of your own home
  • You have a computer, internet access, a web cam and microphone (or are able to obtain them)
  • You are 18 years of age or older and reside in Pennsylvania (NOTE: PA law also requires online therapy to take place within the state.)

Is Online Therapy Private?

Ethical rules for licensed therapists require that your privacy be protected at all times. Like our traditional face-to-face therapy, Samaritan’s Online Therapy services are HIPAA compliant. Furthermore, we use encryption software to protect the confidentiality of data. There are also proactive measures you can take such as choosing and protecting a unique password for your therapy; logging off your computer at the end of every session; and establishing a private, sound-proof area of your home for sessions.

*Not all insurance providers cover online therapy. Please contact your health insurance company to find out. Sliding scale fees are applicable to those who qualify.
